Lauren Edwards for Rochester and Strood
Lauren’s Plan for Rochester and Strood
I will be a visible local MP and promise to hold a weekly advice surgery to help the people I represent. Lauren Edwards
Rochester and Strood is a fantastically large and diverse constituency. It covers not only Rochester and Strood but also Cuxton and Halling, the Hoo Peninsula, parts of Chatham, Brompton and St Mary’s Island. Here are my pledges to all residents if I am elected as your next Labour MP:
-
A LOCAL DOCTOR AND DENTIST WHEN YOU NEED IT
Too many people across Rochester and Strood can’t see a GP or NHS dentist when they need to. As your MP, my priority will be more doctors and dentists to cut waiting times.
Labour will deliver 40,000 more evening and weekend appointments each week, paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and non-dom loopholes.
-
TACKLE THE COST OF LIVING CRISIS
Many of you have told me that you’ve been affected by rising bills. As your MP, I’ll fight to ensure you keep as much of your hard-earned money as possible. Labour will provide economic stability with tough spending rules, so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible. And we’ll create a new publicly-owned clean energy company, GB Energy, which will help bring energy bills down. Our New Deal for Working People will make sure work is decent, fair, secure and safe.
-
FIGHT THE SCOURGE OF ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Everyone should feel safe in our community. As your MP, I will be tough on crime, bring the police together with local communities, and work to bring proper neighbourhood policing back to our streets. Labour will put 13,000 extra neighbourhood police and PCSOs back on the beat and give every community a named and contactable officer they can get in touch with, so policing gets back to doing what it’s supposed to do.
-
PUTTING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE FIRST
No-one should have to move away from Rochester and Strood for better opportunities. As your MP, I will continue my work to bring in new investment to create more jobs and training opportunities for our local young people. Labour will also improve our schools by recruiting 6,500 new teachers in key subjects to set children up for life, work and the future.
-
INFRASTRUCTURE TO SUPPORT HOUSING
I believe we should build affordable good quality homes that come with the infrastructure – the GPs, schools, green spaces and roads – that our communities need.
